Trying to take some time away to get reacquainted with the ones we love can sometimes be harder than we think! First, figuring out where to go; the rules and regulations for that destination; whether are there activities for the kids; is it an adults-only resort.

You are just looking to relax and disconnect from your current situation and find a beach where you can curl your toes in the sand and enjoy the sun. As I have been spending the past year travelling with “Big” Sherri’s clients, I can tell you — she knows how to help her clients relax!

Adults-only doesn't always mean the resort doesn't have kids! Beware!

What type of vacation are you looking for?

First off, you need to decide what type of “relaxed” vacation you want. Are you looking for a place for you and your significant other to get away from life’s chaos and “reconnect” with each other; or are you wanting to spend some quality time as a family and everyone stops looking at their phones and have an actual conversation with each other using words and not texts?

The answer to those questions will determine what type of resort you look at. Trying to reconnect as a couple, you should seriously look at an adults-only resort. It should be noted that when a resort claims it is “adults-only” does not always mean that, it may be an adults-only section. This means when you are having dinner and some of the restaurants, there will be kids. That’s where research comes into play. Look at the description of the resort: Does it say adults-only or adults-only section; does it list kids club under facilities; description of pools, does one indicate “adults-only”? These are red flags when looking for an actual adults-only resort!

Looking for the best resort for your family — nothing says “BEST VACAY EVER”  than one that has a waterpark! Again, you can fall into a trap here! There are many resorts that have waterparks, but some of these waterparks have age limits, as well as height restrictions! You definitely don’t want to book a resort with a waterpark, but the max age is 10 years old, and your kids are 13 and 16. Check the description regarding the waterpark and it will state if there is a limit.

Where’s the beach?

Another thing to take into consideration is the beach! Not all resorts are located on a beach, and if they are on a beach, doesn’t mean they have one! Huh? What are you talking about Mini Sherri? It clearly states they have a beach! Well, that doesn’t mean it’s a big beach, as it is in a cove and you can only walk so far before you come to a barrier, or their beach has been eroding over the years and they haven’t updated their website. So, if walking for hours on the beach is a must — make sure there is one for you to walk! What about swimming in the ocean? Is this important? If so, make sure that resort’s beach is swimmable. There are some resorts that indicate beach, but there is a strong undercurrent that swimming is not recommended or allowed.

Are you overwhelmed reading this?

Don’t worry! The easy solution is to contact Sherri and she will definitely make sure you are relaxing in the proper resort!

Don’t forget to pack extra sunscreen! As well as a hat, lip balm and your UV sunglasses

Experience what the destination has to offer

Each traveller is different. Some prefer to stay in the resort complex and lounge by the pool or find a spot on the beach and swim in the ocean. Then there are those who prefer to explore beyond the boundaries of the resort.

All-inclusive resorts mean you have everything at your fingertips, and the majority of activities are included.
• Once you arrive at the resort, you should make sure to attend your Meet and Greet, as this will tell you about the resort, as well as point out where to find activities and events set up by the resort — party on the beach, beach volleyball games — these are free activities that can bring that extra “AWESOME” into your vacation.
• Consider taking one of those relaxing by-the-pool days and experiencing something adventurous. Over the past year, I have joined in horseback riding, ziplining and ATV tours (I did join a family on their snorkelling tour, but I stayed on the boat because I was having such an awesome hair day — so I just hung around and caught up on my tan!) If you decide to book an excursion when you get there, book directly with the resort. (If you are not sure you want to pre-book an excursion, let Sherri know and she will send you a link to her trusted supplier for excursions, it is in Canadian dollars, and it is usually cheaper than buying it in destination!)

The most important thing to remember is: Slow down to island time! The main point of relaxing is to just slow down, enjoy each other’s company and be grateful for the opportunity to experience another country’s beautiful landscape! Whether it’s a family vacation or a couple’s romantic getaway, make sure the vacation spot matches what you are looking for.

And it all begins with the research process.

Let Sherri take the stress out of planning your vacation! After your initial consultation, Sherri will do the research, put together an itinerary, and look after all the aspects of your travel … no need for you to stress — you can relax and know she’s got ya! All you need to worry about is taking a selfie with me!

When visiting a destination, try and experience an excursion, such as cenotes or a snorkelling excursion.
